ClickNote — Privacy Policy

ClickNote is a browser extension that explains text you select on a web page. This policy describes exactly what data the extension and its backend handle, what is stored, and what is not.
What is sent when you request an explanation
Nothing leaves your browser until you are signed in and you select text (or type a follow-up question). At that moment the extension sends to our backend:
- the text you selected,
- nearby text from the page (so the answer can use the surrounding context),
- the page title, address, and section headings,
- your typed follow-up question and, for follow-ups, the previous answer.
The backend forwards this to an AI model provider to generate the explanation and streams the answer back to you.
What we store
- Account: your user ID and email address, provided by our sign-in service (Clerk).
- Usage metadata: timestamps, request type, and size counters for each explanation, used to enforce your plan's limits.
- Feedback: if you rate an answer, the thumbs up/down rating only.
- Billing status: your plan and a Dodo customer reference if you upgrade.
What we do not store
- The selected text, page content, questions, and generated answers are processed transiently and are never saved on our servers.
- We never see or store your payment card details — payments are handled entirely by Dodo Payments.
- We do not log page content, prompts, or answers, and we do not track your browsing. Pages where you never request an explanation are never contacted, read, or reported.
Services we rely on
- Clerk — sign-in and account management.
- AI model providers (such as Google) — generate the explanations from the text sent with your request.
- Dodo Payments — merchant-of-record payment processing and subscription management for paid plans.
- Vercel and Neon — application hosting and database. Standard server logs (request identifiers, status codes, IP addresses) may be kept briefly for security and debugging.
What we never do
We do not sell or share your data, show ads, or use your data for anything other than operating ClickNote. Explanation requests are not used to build advertising or tracking profiles.
Data retention and deletion
Account and usage records are kept while your account exists. To delete your account and all associated data, email support@clicknote.space from the address you signed up with.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date above is updated and material changes are noted on this page.
